1.0 PROGRAMMES
• Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree.• Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree.
• Bachelor of Arts 4th year Honours Programme.
• Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Archaeology, Museums and Heritage Studies.
• Diploma in Religious Studies and Philosophy.
• Diploma in Theology.
• Diploma in Translation and Interpreting.
2.0 BACHELOR OF ARTS (BA) DEGREE
The duration of the degree is three years of full-time study or four years of part-time study.• The programme runs on a semester system i.e. March to June and August to December.
• To be awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree, a candidate must have passed:
• A total of 37 courses, including a research project and the Communication Skills course.
• The degree shall be classified using the average marks from each of the TWELVE required courses at Parts II and III only, the overall mark being the weighted average in the ratio 2:3 respectively.
• A Part 1 a student registers in three subjects and takes four courses in each of the registered subjects. In addition, every Part 1, student takes the Communication Skills course which is compulsory.
• At Part II, every student registers in three subjects and takes four courses in each registered subject.
• At Part III, every student shall register in two subjects and take six courses in each registered subject. One of the twelve courses shall be a research project.
• Assessment of students’ work is based on both course work and examination.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• At least 2 ‘A' level passes• 5 'O' level passes including : English Language.
• For Tshivenda and Xichangana/XiTsonga only fluent speakers will be admitted into these subjects
• For Geography applicants need to have ‘O’ Level Mathematics.
3.0 BACHELOR OF ARTS HONOURS DEGREE
• The B.A Honours Degree may be offered at Part II of the B.A Degree.• Part I of the B.A Degree Honours Programme shall comprise Part I of the B.A Degree Programme.
• The Programme runs on a semester system i.e March to June and August to December.
• To be awarded the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree, a candidate must have passed a total of 29 courses including a research project and Communication Skills course.
• The student who intends to read for the B.A Honours Degree, should achieve at least a 2.1 in the B.A Part I examination.
• At Part I a student registers in three subjects and takes four courses in each of the registered subjects.
• In addition, every Part I student takes Communication Skills course which is compulsory.
• At Part II a student shall register in one subject which one has chosen and takes eight courses of the registered subject.
• At Part III, every student a shall register for eight courses including a research project.
4.0 BACHELOR OF ARTS HONOURS DEGREE IN ARCHAEOLOGY, MUSEUMS AND HERITAGE STUDIES
• The duration of the Degree is four years of Block Release study.• The programme runs on a semester system that is March to June and August to December.
• To be awarded the Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree, a candidate must have passed:
• A total of 37 courses, including a research project and the Communication Skills course.
• The degree shall be classified using the average marks from each of the twelve courses at Parts II, III, IV, the overall mark being the weighted average in the reaction 3.2.5 respectively.
• At Part II, a student registers for twelve courses.
• At Part III, a student registers for two courses.
• At Part IV, a student registers for ten courses.
• Assessment of student’s work is based on both course work and examination.
4.2 ENTRY QUALIFICATION
At least 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language plus either 2 ‘A’ level passes including History or relevant working experience.5.1 DIPLOMA IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES AND PHILOSOPHY
• The duration of the Diploma is two years of Block Release study.• The programme runs on a semester system that is March to June and August to December.
• To be awarded the Diploma, a candidate must have passed a total of twenty (20) courses, including Communication Skills and Information Technology course.
• At Part I, a student shall register for ten compulsory courses, five (5) from Religious Studies, Four (4) from Philosophy and one (1) Communication Skills and Information Technology course.
• At Part II, a student shall register for ten (10) courses, four (4) from Religious Studies and Five (5) from Philosophy and a Research Project done over two semesters.
5.2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
At least 5 ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language. An A’ level pass is an added advantage.6.1 DIPLOMA IN THEOLOGY
• The duration of the diploma is two years of Block Release study.• The programme runs on a semester system that is March to June and August to December.
• To be awarded a diploma, a student must have passed a total of twenty courses, including a communication Skills and Information Technology course.
• At Part 1, a student shall register for ten (10) courses including Communication Skills and Information Technology course.
• At Part II, a student shall register for ten (10) courses including a Research Project.
6.2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
At least 5 ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language.A pass at ‘A’ Level will be an added advantage.
7.1 DIPLOMA IN TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING
• The duration of the diploma is one year of Full Time or Block Release study.• The programme runs on a semester system that is March to June and August to December.
• To be awarded the Diploma, a candidate must have passed sixteen (16) courses including Communication Skills and Information Technology and a Research Project.
7.2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Levels including English Language and competence in any of Zimbabwean indigenous languages or foreign languages such as French, Portuguese, Chinese, Spanish and Afrikaans.8.0 RESEARCH
• The Faculty is home to a team of vibrant researchers comprising young academics who are continuously exploring new knowledge in the various subject areas and across a wide spectrum of cutting edge issues such as gender, environment, democracy, human rights, ethics, HIV and AIDS, citizenship, culture and creative arts.• The Faculty attaches value to collaborative research with academics within and outside the region.
8.1 REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
The Faculty in collaboration with the Venda University of South Africa and its MerMathiva Centre for African Languages, Arts and Culture is offering a unique programme in TshiVenda and Xichangana.9.0 FUTURE PLANS
