The Great Zimbabwe University School of Medical and Health Sciences is poised to massively transform the healthcare system in Masvingo province and the region as it has already brought state-of-the-art facilities which meets the community and the nation’s current and future health needs. The School has already started to attract specialists who will eventually come and set up practice in Masvingo thus eliminating the high costs of travelling for specialist care in faraway places. The establishment of the School of Medical and Health Sciences at Great Zimbabwe University is important in order to address the critical shortage of medical specialists in the country. Among other novelties, the school will be backed by a strong department of pharmaceutical studies that will enable students to manufacture medicines that work. A Centre for the study of herbal and traditional medicines and indigenous knowledge systems will also be established at the School. The school opened its doors to its first group of twenty students training to be medical doctors in March 2023. The students enrolled for the Bsc Honours in Biomedical Sciences, the degree leading to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Honours degree (MBChB). Besides the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Biomedical Sciences, the School will offer various health related disciplines which will include:-
